I have the honour to bring to the notice of
Your Excellency a proposal which will perhaps not only give a
good site for the new R. N. Seamen's Club, but may also finally
solve the difficulty as to the future of the Victoria Recrea-
tion Club.
The foreshore of the North Barracks, which is
shortly to be turned over to the Navy, extends to the West as
far as the Eastern Boundary Wall of the New Praya, but if the
proposed extension of the Naval Yard were taken thus far, it
would so congest the traffic at the new Murray Pier as to se-
riously affect the usefulness of that structure, it would also
shut out the present Victoria Recreation Club from the water
even if the Club was permitted to retain the position it now
holds. Partly in deference to the inconvenience which would be
caused to traffic, and partly in respect to the Club, which has
made more than one appeal to be favourably considered, the
Western Wall of the new R.N.Yard Extension will run from the
